Get outdoors at Olympic National Park: On the Road for Sept. 24

Healthy Parks, Healthy Communities Day

What: Olympic National Park is hosting a number of special activities as part of its initiative to help visitors discover, enjoy and be active in the park. The activities are designed for visitors to get outside, get moving and reap the health benefits of exercise, nature and fresh air.

When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Various locations around the park.

Olympic National Park Visitor Center: At 10 a.m., dogs and their owners can learn where and how to enjoy the park. From 10 a.m.-noon, the Olympic Peninsula Boys & Girls Club will be handing out healthy snacks. At 10:30 a.m., there will be a Living Forest Stroll and at 12:30 p.m. a walk to Peabody Creek.

Hurricane Ridge area: Earn a token by hiking to the top of Hurricane Hill.

Lake Crescent: From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., kids can take on the Salmon Run obstacle course. You also can earn a token by hiking to Marymere Falls.

Kalaloch area: There will be a walk from the Kalaloch Campground to the creek at 11 a.m. If you make it to Ruby Beach, hike 100 yards south to find tokens.

Rewards: For some activities, participants will be rewarded with a small token for completing the activity. Anyone earning three or more tokens can receive a free Olympic National Park Find Your Park water bottle (while supplies last) at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, Storm King Ranger Station or the Kalaloch Information Station.

Admission: Free. Saturday also is a fee-free day to celebrate National Public Lands Day, which also is Saturday.
