Four runs will help start Thanksgiving Day fun
It has become a tradition for many families to start their Thanksgiving Day with a run. Runners, from the serious to those wanting a little fun to start the holiday, have multiple options around the South Sound.
Some events, like the Orting Turkey Trot and JBLM Turkey Trot, have already taken place.
Here is a brief look at the events taking place Thursday:
GIG HARBOR TURKEY TROT
Holmes Chiropractic is again hosting a turkey trot in Gig Harbor, an event that began in 2003. There will be a 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer run/walks, with the course winding around the harbor.
The activities begin at 8 a.m. Registration for both events is $15. Participants also are asked to bring two cans of food. The event is free for participants 12 and younger.

NORPOINT TURKEY TROT
The Center at Norpoint will host its 21st annual turkey trot. Events include a 5-kilometer, chip-timed run, a 2-mile clock timed run/walk and a kids’ dash. The two runs wind through the streets of Northeast Tacoma, while the kids dash takes place at the center.
The activities begin at 9 a.m.
Registration for the 5K and 2-mile events are $20 through Sunday (Nov. 22), $25 on Monday and Tuesday, and $30 the day of the race. The kids dash cost is $10 through Sunday, $15 Monday and Tuesday, and $20 on Thursday.

THE OLY TROT
This event, run by Guerilla Running Club, winds around Capitol Lake and through the Capitol Campus. There will be a 4-mile run/walk and a 0.5-mile Tot Trot. Registration for the event is closed.
The activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Tot Trot, followed at 9 a.m. by the 4-mile race.

TACOMA CITY TURKEY TROT
The Tacoma City Marathon Association will hold a turkey trot that includes a 5-kilometer run/walk and a 1-kilometer kids run through Tacoma’s Proctor District. The two runs wind through the streets of Northeast Tacoma, while the kids’ dash takes place at the center.
The activities begin at 9 a.m.
Registration for the 5k event is $35 through midnight Monday, $40 Wednesday and $45 the day of the race. The 1K kids’ run is $10 through Monday, $15 through the day of the race.
