To celebrate Thanksgiving and encourage people to spend healthy time outdoors, admission to Mount Rainier and Olympic national parks will be free entry Nov. 27.

Despite damage from recent storms, most areas of Olympia are expected to be open the day after Thanksgiving. The Olympic National Park Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and the Hoh Visitor Center will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Weather permitting, the Hurricane Ridge Road is scheduled to be open during daylight hours.

At Mount Rainier, the Longmire Museum will be open on Friday, as well as the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise.

“We’re calling the day after Thanksgiving ‘Green Friday,’ ” Olympic superintendent Sarah Creachbaum said in a news release.

Admission to both parks is typically $20 per vehicle, and is good for seven days.

Information about visiting Mount Rainier is available at nps.gov/mora, and information about Olympic is at nps.gov/olym.
