Winter solstice candlelight walk
What: Come with your friends or family, come to sing Christmas carols or come to simply celebrate the beauty of the winter solstice along the Riverfront Trail. The walk in honor of the shortest day of the year has been held since 2006. The event is sponsored by Yoga Circle Studio.
When: 4-7 p.m. Dec. 21.
Where: Riverfront Trail, Snohomish.
What to do: Walk along the paved trail lit by more than 500 white paper bag luminaries.
Cost: Free.
The solstice: The winter solstice occurs on the day when the sun reaches its most southern point in the sky, making it the day with the shortest amount of daylight and longest night. It will occur Dec. 21 at 8:49 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. On that day, residents in the South Sound will enjoy just 8:28:28 of daylight. But cheer up, on Dec. 22, we’ll have a full second more of daylight.
Make it a weekend: You can begin the weekend by attending the fourth annual freestyle Christmas Lights Cruise from 6-7 p.m. Cars, trucks, motorcycles will be decorated with Christmas lights as they take a lap around First and Second streets.
