On the road for Feb. 4: Geocaching at Camano Island state parks

WHAT: Washington State Parks is holding a weekend of geocaching fun, education and cleanup at two state parks.

WHEN: Events start at 9 a.m. Saturday.

WHERE: Cama Beach and Camano Island state parks, Camano Island.

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE: Participants will find new caches and can enter a chance to win one of three hand-blown glass balls or perhaps find some hidden within the park. From noon-6 p.m. at the Cama Center in Cama Beach State Park. For more information and to register, go to coord.info/GC652MD. Those who don’t already have a geocache account can sign up for free at geocaching.com.

GEOCACHING CLASSES: Three will be offered from noon-2 p.m. Geocaching 101 is a beginning class will introduce participants to global position satellite technology, geocaching terminology, rules, problem and puzzle-solving skills and more.

Geocaching Puzzle Solving 101 is for adult geocachers who are just beginning to solve puzzles. Registration is required.

Setting Good Coordinates is designed for geocachers who are hiding their first geocache or are hearing concerns about inaccurate coordinates for geocaches they have hidden.

BEACH N IVY CACHE IN TRASH OUT: Participants will help clean up the beach and remove invasive ivy. People should bring rain gear and gloves and wear sturdy shoes. State Parks will provide the tools. COST: Free for the programs, but a Discover Pass is needed to enter the parks.
