WHAT: The famed Penn Cove mussels will be the centerpiece of this two-day celebration. Events at the festival, which is in its 30th year, include chowder tasting, mussel-eating contests and farm tours.
WHEN: March 12-13.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: There will be cooking demonstrations from 10 a.m-3 p.m. each day, with chefs from area restaurants showing their talents. There will be tours of the Penn Cove Shellfish Farm from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. The tour is $10 each.
There also will be a mountain bike and poker ride (musselsinthekettles.com) and a book sale at the Coupeville Library. There also will be a beer and wine garden.
CHOWDER TASTING: Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. at the rec hall. They do sell out.
MUSSEL TOUR: This full-day trip for all ages will be March 12. In Coupeville, you will sample various mussel chowders. During a short boat ride into Penn Cove, you’ll see how the mussels grow.
There also will be cooking demonstrations.
The cost is $110 a person, all inclusive except lunch, or $89 each if three tickets are purchased together.
COST: Admission is free, but there is a charge for some events.
