Razor Clam Festival and Seafood Extravaganza

WHAT: The 10th annual event is a celebration of the razor clams, that can be dug on local beaches, and fresh seafood. There will be live entertainment, chowder competitions, food booths and arts booths.

WHEN: 2-7 p.m. March 18, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. March 19 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. March 20.

WHERE: Headquartered at Ocean Shores Convention Center, 120 W. Chance A La Mer NW, Ocean Shores.

ALL ABOUT FOOD: There will be multiple cooking events, including professional and amateur chowder cook-offs, clam and seafood entrée cook-offs, and cooking demonstrations by area chefs. Ben Boili of Tacoma took second place in last year’s amateur chowder event.

OTHER EVENTS: Artisan, information and food booths will be open each day of the festival. There will be a Kids’ Korner with face painting and mechanical shark rides. There will be a scavenger hunt, during which participants visit local businesses by following clues.

DIG YOUR OWN: The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has tentatively set a clam dig to take place during the festival on the Mocrocks and Copalis beach area, stretching north from Ocean Shores. Low tides will take place in late afternoon and early evening. The best digging is an hour or two before low tide. See wdfw.wa.gov/shellfish for information.
