Free sessions
State offers turkey hunting clinics
The state Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Hunter Education Division will host two free turkey hunting clinics this month in Tacoma. The sessions will include information to help hunters prep for the April 15 spring turkey season opener.
The sessions will be offered March 26-27 at Bass Pro Shop, 7905 S. Hosmer St., Tacoma. Clinics will also be offered March 30 in Spokane and April 2 in East Wenatchee.
The clinics will include turkey call demonstrations and hunting tips. Participants also will receive booklets that provide information on species identification, biology, habitat, how and where to hunt turkey, care of harvested game, and safety practices.
Department staff will teach the clinics with assistance from hunter education instructors, master hunters, and members of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Yellowstone
Fly-fishing author gives program
Chester Allen, author of “Fly Fishing for Sea-Run Cutthroat,” will be the guest speaker at Tuesday’s meeting of the South Sound Flyfishers in Olympia.
Allen will be talking about “Steelheading in the Rockies: Fall Fly Fishing for Big Trout in Yellowstone National Park.”
The former outdoor writer for The Olympian also will have books for sale and will be available for signing books he has written.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the North Olympia Fire Station, 5046 Boston Harbor Road NE, Olympia.

North Cascades
Cascade River Road closes for work
For more than a month, Cascade River Road will be closed to all vehicle and foot traffic beginning April 3. The closure is expected to run through May 13 because of construction on Hard Creek Bridge.
From May 14-25, drivers could experience up to 20-minute delays.
The road will be closed at the Lookout Mountain Trail parking area near milepost 7. It will affect hikers and climbers approaching the area from either the east or west side. Eldorado Peak and other peaks accessed via Eldorado Creek will not be affected.
The road provides access to the popular Cascade Pass, Horseshoe Basin and Sahale Arm trails, as well as a scenic route for visitors hiking across North Cascades National Park to Stehekin.
