Fishing report for March 29

SALT WATER

South Sound: The staff at Point Defiance Boathouse Marina reports salmon fishing has been slow, but some anglers have landed blackmouth as large as 7 1/2 pounds. Coho had previously been biting along the shorelines, but there have been no reports of recent catches.

Westport: Weather has kept the charters docked earlier this week, according to the Wesport Charterboat Association, but when the weather is nice, boats are catching ling cod limits.

North Sound: Anglers have been catching blackmouth.

Razor Clams: The two-month Long Beach clam dig ends Thursday, but the state has proposed digs for April 3-6 at Long Beach on the evening tides and April 7-12 and 20-28 on the morning tides. Digs are also proposed for April 7-9 at Copalis and April 7-8, 10, 23 and 25-26 at Mocrocks. The Copalis and Mocrocks digs are also on the evening tides.

LAKES

American: David Anderson of Bill’s Boathouse says fishermen on the dock are benefiting from the lake being stocked recently. The lake was stocked with 11,787 trout earlier this month. Anglers are using green or yellow Power Eggs. Boat anglers aren’t having as much luck, he said.

Green: The Seattle lake was stocked with 6,225 trout last week after getting 5,000 fish earlier in the month.

Horseshoe: The Cowlitz County lake was planted with 2,840 trout last week.

Island: Located near Poulsbo, this lake was recently stocked with 2,000 rainbows and 200 cutthroats.

Lawrence: Last week, 20,000 rainbow trout were planted here.

Meridian: This Kent lake has been stocked with 12,000 trout this month, most of which were added last week.

Kapowsin: Stocked with 30,000 rainbow trout since late February, including 15,000 fish last week. Anglers were reporting catching limits last week.

Offutt: More than 5,000 rainbows were planted last week into this Thurston County lake.

Scanewa: Tacoma Power released 176 spring chinook, two spring Chinook jacks and 11 winter-run steelhead above Cowlitz Falls Dam last week.

St. Clair: Stocked last week with 4,500 rainbows.

Spanaway: Another 3,500 trout were added to these waters recently, bringing the total of new fish here to nearly 12,000 this month.

Eastern Washington: Action seems to have slowed a bit on Potholes Reservoir, but seep lakes in the area are set to open Friday.

RIVERS

Cispus: Tacoma Power released 19 winter-run steelhead adults last week near the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek.

Columbia: Walleye fishing has been very good in The Dalles and John Day pools. Sturgeon fishing is closed between Buoy 10 and The Dalles Dam, but catch and release fishing is permitted.

Cowlitz: Tacoma Power reports that it recovered 312 winter-run steelhead, 196 spring chinook adults and two spring chinook jacks last week at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

Kalama: State officials report bank and boat anglers are catching some steelhead and spring chinook.

Tilton: Tacoma Power released 46 winter-run steelhead adults last week at Morton’s Gust Backstrom Park.
