Fishing report for April 12
SALT WATER
South Sound: The Point Defiance Boathouse Marina staff reports salmon fishing remains slow, but some anglers are having some success. Salmon (most 5-8 pounds and some larger than 14 pounds) have been caught by trolling near Point Dalco and Quartermaster Harbor. Near the clay banks, anglers have caught fish by mooching, jigging and trolling.
North Sound: Salmon fishing in Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet) closed Monday, four days early, because the chinook encounter limit was reached.
Westport: The most recent report from the Westport Charterboat Association said boats were getting close to their limits on lingcod and rock cod. Anglers on northwestfishingreports.com were also reporting good lingcod fishing.
Razor Clams: Tuesday morning’s low tide marked the end of the latest razor clam dig on Long Beach. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has proposed digs for Long Beach (April 20-28) and Mocrocks (April 23, 25-26).
LAKES
Aberdeen: Last week this lake was stocked with 164 trout.
Alice: This small lake near Snoqualmie was stocked last week with 1,300 rainbow trout from the Puyallup Hatchery.
American: David Anderson of Bill’s Boathouse said trout fishing has been slow, but there were three anglers who caught their kokanee limit over the weekend. He recommended trolling with a downrigger, small dodger, short leader with a squid hookup or maybe maggots.
Duck: This Grays Harbor lake has been stocked with 1,386 trout since March 30, including 130 trout last week.
Failor: This Grays Harbor lake was stocked last week with 246 trout.
Hicks: This Lacey Lake got 200 new fish last week.
Longs Pond: This lake for young anglers was stocked with 1,000 rainbow trout last week.
Maggie: The state added 1,400 rainbow trout last week to this Mason County lake.
Morton: This King County lake was stocked last week with 6,500 rainbows.
Offut: Trolling or plunking have worked for catching fish here. Last week, the lake was stocked with 300 more trout.
St. Clair: This Thurston County lake was infused last week with 2,750 rainbow trout.
Scanewa: Last week, Tacoma Power released 567 spring chinook, eight spring chinook jacks, and six winter-run steelhead above Cowlitz Falls Dam.
Spring: This lake near Maple Valley was stocked last week with 7,000 Rainbow trout.
Stevens: Anglers who’ve made the trip to fish here have had luck trolling for kokanee.
Sylvia: The state stocked this Grays Harbor lake with 164 fish last week.
Twin: This Mason County lake received 700 rainbow trout last week.
RIVERS
Columbia: Anglers are catching a few spring chinook and steelhead in The Dalles and John Day pools. Anglers were also catching walleye and bass in the pools.
Cowlitz: A state survey last week showed that 147 boat anglers kept 107 steelhead and nine adult spring chinook while releasing one steelhead. Meanwhile, 176 bank anglers kept 23 steelhead and 11 adult spring chinook while releasing one steelhead. Last week, Tacoma Power recovered 621 winter-run steelhead, 1,230 spring chinook adults, 25 spring chinook jacks.
Tilton: Last week, Tacoma Power released 29 winter-run steelhead at Morton’s Gust Backstrom Park.
Kalama: State surveys turned up no reports of angling success.
Lewis: There were no reports of success landing steelhead last week according to a WDFW report.
