Free entry to state parks

To celebrate Earth Day, a Discover Card will not be needed to enter a state park Friday; it is one of multiple “free days” offered by Washington State Parks during the year. The next one will be May 8. A Discover Pass is still required on lands managed by the departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources; discoverpass.wa.gov.

Check out meteor shower

Considered an average meteor shower, the Lyrids typically produces about 20 meteors per hour at its peak. The meteors are caused by dust particles left behind by comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, which was discovered in 1861. The peak this year will be Friday night and early Saturday morning. Light from the full moon will block all but the brightest meteors.

Native plant sale

The South Sound Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society will hold its annual spring native plant sale with knowledgeable volunteers to answer questions; 9 a.m. Saturday; Washington State Capital Museum and Coach House, 211 21st Ave. SW, Olympia; admission is free; southsoundchapterwnps.org.
