On the Road for April 21: Sequim Irrigation Festival
Sequim Irrigation Festival
WHAT: This festival, now in its 121st year, celebrates the development and importance of the irrigation ditches that brought water to the once-dry prairies of Sequim, according to organizers. This year’s festival will have more events and more community involvement than ever, making sure the festival lives up to its moniker of “Best Small Town Event.”
WHEN: May 6-15.
WHERE: Downtown Sequim and surrounding area.
CRAZY CALLEN WEEKEND: The opening weekend of the festival has been named “Crazy Callen Weekend.” It will start with the Crazy Daze breakfast and include an art walk, family fun day with activities and events downtown, the Sequim farmers market and a kids parade.
FINAL WEEKEND: Events scheduled to take place include a carnival, historic walking tour, golf tournament, Sequim High School operetta, logging show, strongman showdown, truck and tractor pull, fun run, a car and motorcycle show, fireworks and the grand parade.
ADMISSION: Free to get in, but there is a charge for some individual events.
OF NOTE: The grand marshal for the parade is Jim Stoffer, who retired in 2010 after 31 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. One of his assignments was serving as commanding officer of the USGCC Cuttyhunk based in nearby Port Angeles.
