Fishing report for April 5

SALT WATER

South Sound: The Point Defiance Boathouse Marina staff reports salmon fishing was good before nasty weather kept most anglers off the water Monday. Anglers were catching blackmouth as large as 13 pounds. Recommendations include trolling with flasher and spoon in Quartermaster Harbor, or mooching or trolling near Point Dalco.

North Sound: Action has been decent near Port Townsend and Point No Point, said Mike Chamberlain of Ted’s Sports Center in Lynnwood.

Westport: Bottom fishing has been good. The Westport Charter Boat Association reports that over the weekend boats were returning with rockfish and lingcod limits by about 2:30 p.m.

Razor clams: The Long Beach Razor Clam Festival is Saturday and Sunday. The state has approved digging at Long Beach through April 12. Digging is on the evening tides through Wednesday then switches to the morning tides. Morning digs are also scheduled for Copalis (Thu.-Sat.) and Mocrocks (Thu., Fri. and Sun.).

LAKES

American: No kokanee reports yet, but David Anderson of Bill’s Boathouse says anglers are catching rainbows and perch off the dock. He suggests going with a worm on bottom and floating it with a marshmallow. “A big one got away,” he said. “So it’s still out there.”

Black: Stocked recently with 6,100 trout.

Leland: This lake in Jefferson County was stocked with 2,090 trout last week.

Long: This Thurston County lake was stocked last week with 7,200 trout.

Mineral: On March 24, this Lewis County lake received 7,850 catchable trout.

Pattison: Last week this lake was infused with 416 fish.

Scanewa: Last week, Tacoma Power released 284 spring chinook, seven spring chinook jacks and 18 winter-run steelhead above Cowlitz Falls Dam.

Spanaway: The state has dropped fish off here all last month. It received 5,000 trout last week, bringing the total for the month to nearly 17,000.

Spencer: Last week the state added 10,150 rainbow trout to this popular Mason County lake.

Stevens: Kokanee fishing is improving, Chamberlain said..

Summit: Officials last week stocked this lake with 650 trout.

Tee: This Mason County lake was stocked last week with 2,760 trout.

Trails End: This lake near Belfair was stocked with 3,725 trout last week.

Grays Harbor County: Three lakes were loaded up with fresh fish last week. Duck Lake was infused with 1,050 catchable trout while Lake Sylvia and Vance Creek Pond each got 200.

RIVERS

Cispus: Last week, Tacoma Power released 496 spring chinook adults, 19 jacks and 34 winter-run steelhead adults near the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek.

Columbia: Effort and catch was improving below Bonneville Dam last week.

Cowlitz: Tacoma Power reports that it recovered 700 winter-run steelhead, 900 spring chinook adults, 27 spring chinook jacks and one cutthroat trout last week at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

Olympic Peninsula: Anglers are doing well catching steelhead, but no place seems to be producing better than others, Chamberlain said. Previously action seemed to be best on the Sol Duc River.

Tilton: Last week, Tacoma Power released 62 winter-run steelhead adults and one cutthroat trout at Morton’s Gust Backstrom Park.
