Winner of The News Tribune’s Girls Athlete of the Week (March 2 to 7)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Girls Athlete of the Week for contests played between March 2-7. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Malia Froemke, White River basketball

The junior guard paced the Hornets with 18 points in Friday’s 3A state consolation win over Stanwood. White River took home the fourth-place trophy on Saturday.

Kawehi Borden, Sumner basketball — Junior guard dropped game-high 27 points with nine rebounds and two steals in Thursday’s 4A quarterfinal win over Union, then had game-high 28 points in Friday’s semifinal win over Lake Washington and 17 points in Saturday’s championship loss to Davis at the Tacoma Dome.

Olivia Borden, Fife basketball — Junior guard had 16 points and three rebounds in Wednesday’s 2A Round of 12 loss to Selah in Yakima.

Shayla Cordis, North Thurston basketball — Senior guard paced the Rams with 23 points and eight rebounds in Wednesday’s 3A Round of 12 loss to White River in Tacoma.

Jayden Fitzgerald, Kennedy Catholic basketball — Sophomore guard dropped game-high 32 points with five rebounds and four steals in Thursday’s 4A quarterfinal win over Gonzaga Prep, adding 22 points and eight rebounds in Saturday’s third-place win over Lake Washington.

Malia Froemke, White River basketball — Junior guard paced the Hornets with 18 points in Friday’s 3A state consolation win over Stanwood.

Avery Hansen, Auburn basketball — Junior guard had game-high 24 points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Wednesday’s 4A Round of 12 loss to Sumner.

Raymiah Jackson, Sumner basketball — Junior forward had team-high 16 points with nine rebounds in Wednesday’s 4A Round of 12 win over Auburn, adding 12 points in Thursday’s quarterfinal win over Union.

Aaliyeh Martin, Annie Wright basketball — Senior guard had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals in win over Montesano and a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and three steals in 1A state tournament loss to Lynden Christian in Yakima. In 4th/6th place game, had 25 points, two rebounds and three steals in win over Bellevue Christian, securing a fourth-place finish for the Gators.

Paige Nadarski, Kennedy Catholic basketball — Senior captain had team-high 17 points with five rebounds to lift the No. 11 Lancers over No. 3 Chiawana in Wednesday’s 4A Round of 12 at the Tacoma Dome.

Bailey Nettleton, Tahoma basketball — Senior guard had game-high 20 points with two rebounds in Wednesday’s 4A Round of 12 loss to Woodinville.

Maggie Schmitz, White River basketball — Junior guard posted a 28-point, 15-rebound double-double with four steals and three assists in Wednesday’s 3A Round of 12 win over North Thurston, adding 18 points in Thursday’s quarterfinal loss to Eastside Catholic and game-high 22 points in Saturday’s fourth-place win over Evergreen.

Brooklyn Whittington, Cascade Christian basketball — Junior guard scored 11 points, had two rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot and a steal in 1A state tournament opening round loss to Seton Catholic.
