Fever Coach Stephanie White Pumps Breaks on Caitlin Clark After Injury Update

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White reunited with Caitlin Clark and the rest of the squad on Sunday. The Fever have officially kicked off training camp ahead of the new WNBA season. At this point, they have less than three weeks to prepare for their season-opener against the Dallas Wigs on May 9.

The biggest news for the Fever is that Clark is back at full strength. After an injury-plagued 2025 campaign, the two-time All-Star is now healthy and ready to go. Clark herself announced on Sunday that she's "100% healthy" as she looks to get back on track in Year 3.

Coach White is also excited to get her superstar back on the floor. Clark was limited to just 13 games last season during White's debut campaign with the Fever.

White, however, has pumped the brakes on all the hype surrounding Clark's return. The former WNBA Coach of the Year has made it abundantly clear that the Fever will be taking a cautious approach to their cornerstone superstar.

"She doesn't have to be out there every rep, just being mindful of reps," White said on Sunday, via Tony East of The IX Sports. "I think every year that she gets older, too, she understands the cadence is a little bit different.

"I think with her, with Kelsey [Mitchell], with [Aliyah Boston], with all of them, just be mindful of getting them in and out. And we need to get other people integrated anyway, so I think it'll give us a good opportunity to do that."

White is not yet ready to push Clark to her limit. It does not sound like she's going to take it easy on the 24-year-old in training camp, but White is also wary of Clark potentially overexerting herself.

It is important to note that Clark suffered multiple soft tissue injuries last season. The Fever brought her back after recovering from a left groin/quad injury. Her return was short-lived, with Clark eventually injuring her right groin a few games later. It turned out to be a season-ending injury for the former Rookie of the Year.

The Fever want to prioritize Clark's long-term health, and White has already laid out her conservative plans for the former Iowa Hawkeyes star early on.
