Mets Make Roster Move After Unfortunate Francisco Lindor News

The New York Mets have been on an all-time bad stretch of play over the past two weeks. Heading into Wednesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins, the Mets had lost 12 consecutive matchups, their longest losing streak since 2002 and the sixth-longest in franchise history.

New York had a glimmer of hope on Wednesday, though, as the Mets got superstar outfielder Juan Soto back from the injured list, which he had been on since April 4 with a right calf strain.

The reinstatement of Soto into the Mets' lineup against the Twins may have invigorated the team, as New York put an end to its 12-game skid in a 3-2 victory over Minnesota.

Despite the victory, Mets fans held their collective breath again in the fourth inning when star shortstop Francisco Lindor was taken out of the game with left calf tightness. Lindor scored from first base on a Francisco Alvarez RBI double that gave New York a 2-1 lead at the time, but grimaced around the bases.

Lindor had flipped a switch in the past two days, blasting a three-run home run on Tuesday and going 2-for-2 with a run-scoring single in the first inning on Wednesday.

While the status of Lindor is uncertain, as he will undergo an MRI on Thursday, the Mets have reportedly decided to call up infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A as a possible replacement for an injured Lindor, according to MLB insider Francys Romano.

"The Mets are calling up Ronny Mauricio again, per sources. Mauricio has been on fire in Triple-A Syracuse, hitting .333 with 5 home runs and a 1.142 OPS in April," Romano said.

Mauricio was called up early in the season and played just two games with four at-bats before being sent back down to the minors. In his first plate appearance of the year in the big leagues, Mauricio hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This extra-inning win against Arizona on April 7 was the last Mets' victory before Wednesday's triumph.

Now, as Mauricio has been swinging a hot bat in Triple-A, the Mets have options in the infield if Lindor misses time with an injury.
