WAHI's Calvert competes at Junior Olympic Air Rifle National Championships
ANNISTON, Ala. - Cadet Major Claire Calvert of the Walla Walla High School JROTC Rifle Team finished in the top 200 at the Junior Olympic Air Rifle National Championships this past weekend.
Calvert, a senior, qualified for the match this year in the Washington State Women's Air Rifle event in January. The national event includes two days of shooting 60 record shots, all from the standing position at a 10 meter distance. In Junior Olympic Nationals shots are scored by decimal so a normal 100 point target actually carries a total possible value of 109.
Calvert finished with a score of 592.3 on Saturday's first day and 593.7 on Sunday for a two-day total of 1,187 to finish in 176th place.
Calvert's former Walla Walla teammate Hannah Goin, who now shoots for the NCAA Division I rifle team at Morehead State University, finished with a total of 1,220.4 to finish in 106th place.
