Phillies Make Alec Bohm Decision After 36 Games

Alec Bohm's seventh year with the Philadelphia Phillies has been disastrous as the team prepares to face the Athletics. The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $10.2 million contract early this year after strong performances in 2024, when he was an All-Star, and in 2025, when he produced similar numbers overall.

The Phillies brought him back for his excellent bat control, consistent low-strikeout approach, and ability to drive in runs from the middle of the lineup. However, he has not been able to deliver.

Bohm has played in more than 34 games this season and has posted a .161 batting average, a .230 on-base percentage, and a .440 OPS, with one home run and 15 RBIs. His numbers rank among the worst for everyday hitters this season, highlighting just how much he has struggled at the plate.

The Phillies are looking into the struggles of third baseman Bohm and searching for a solution regarding his status. Interim manager Don Mattingly was asked Tuesday by reporters whether the team is considering someone else at third base.

Mattingly said, "Whenever that is, it's not now. I've seen Alec. He's another big sample, he's always hit. Smaller sample, he's not hitting right now. And I think last year he may have started out slowly also. So it's not like this is totally out of the norm. Obviously, he doesn't wanna struggle, we don't want him to struggle. But from my standpoint, I'm confident in him bouncing back." (h/t Todd Zolecki of MLB.com)

There remains some hope for Bohm, as the Phillies are not entirely ready to move on from him, but this comes as he is in the final year of team control of his contract.

The former first-round pick out of Wichita State and one-time All-Star is seeing his current level of play, well below average, come at a terrible time, with free agency looming in the offseason.
