Reign's Laura Harvey set to become NWSL's first to manage 300 matches
The Reign will try to regain their home form with two matches at Lumen Field this week. Up first is the Washington Spirit.
Utah snapped the Reign's 10-match unbeaten streak at home with a 3-0 win at Lumen Field last month.
Reign coach Laura Harvey will become the first in NWSL history to manage 300 matches, across all competitions. She's coached a record 251 with the Reign and 48 with the Utah Royals.
Here's a look at Sunday's match:
Reign (3-2-2) vs. Washington (4-1-3)
Time/place: 4 p.m. at Lumen Field in Seattle
TV: Victory+
Radio: 950 KJR AM
Series history: Seattle leads the all-time series 14-12-8 since 2013
Creating goals
After starting the season showing offensive life, the Reign have gone 270 minutes without netting a goal. The team had a week of training after a draw on the road against the Houston Dash. A focus was finishing, which will be difficult against the Spirit. The visitors are among the more defensively sound teams in the league, having allowed just six goals through eight matches to open the season. Washington ceded two goals in a win against Orlando on May 2, which snapped a streak of four consecutive clean sheets (3-0-1).
Manager watch
Opposite of Harvey during her 300th match as a manager will be the Spirit's Adrián González, who was named NWSL Coach of the Month for April. He was an interim coach for nearly two years and this is his first full season at the helm.
Quotable
"It's hard to put into words how hard it is to coach in this league," Harvey said. "It maybe speaks volumes that I'm the only one anywhere near that amount of games. Longevity in this league or longevity as a coach is hard to come by. I feel very privileged and humbled and honored that people have given me the opportunity to have this amount of games available to me in my career. I'm grateful to all the players that have bought into the things that I've asked them to do. I'm grateful for all the people that I've worked with who've helped me along the way cause I never do anything on my own."
