Louisville Keeps Rolling as Pat Kelsey Lands 4-Star Forward Boyuan Zhang

The Louisville Cardinals keep picking up steam as the college basketball offseason rolls on.

Head coach Pat Kelsey has attacked the transfer portal and recruiting trail like a madman, stacking proven scorers, high-upside international talent, and blue-chip prospects into one of the ACC's most fascinating roster overhauls.

Louisville landed former Flory Bidunga, the No. 1-ranked player in the portal and reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year at Kansas, alongside junior guard Jackson Shelstad, a dynamic scorer and playmaker from Oregon.

The Cardinals also added former Arkansas wing Karter Knox and 7-foot-5 USC transfer Gabe Dynes to bolster their size and depth, along with four-stars Alvaro Folgueiras (Iowa) and De’Shayne Montgomery (Dayton).

On the recruiting trail, Louisville secured elite center Obinna Ekezie Jr., the country’s top-ranked center, who reclassified from the 2027 class into 2026, as Kelsey continues rebuilding Louisville into an ACC contender.

Now comes the newest domino, Boyuan Zhang, a consensus four-star prospect and Rivals’ No. 46 overall player in 2026.

Zhang arrives at Louisville as one of the fastest-rising international prospects in the 2026 class.

The 6-foot-8 wing starred this season for Veritas Prep in California's EYBL Scholastic league, averaging 20.2 points per game while emerging as one of the nation's premier perimeter scorers.

Representing China in FIBA competition, Zhang shot 41% from deep in the FIBA U17 World Cup and 44% in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup in 2024.

He also averaged 20.5 points per game at the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship, then posted 17.1 points at the U17 World Cup and 14.7 points with 5.1 rebounds at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Zhang brings size, shooting, and international experience to Pat Kelsey's system, giving the Cardinals a versatile scoring wing capable of stretching defenses, attacking closeouts, and fitting seamlessly into Louisville's fast-paced offensive style.

It also gives Kelsey another headline-grabbing addition and further cements the Cardinals as one of college basketball's most aggressive talent collectors entering 2026.

Louisville beat out programs including Illinois, Oregon, USC, Cal, Minnesota, UNLV, and Washington State for his commitment.
