Seattle Reign hope to break scoring drought vs. Gotham FC
The Reign hope to close out their homestand with a win against Gotham FC.
Here's a look at Friday's match:
Reign (3-3-2) vs. Gotham (4-2-3)
Time/place: 7 p.m. at Lumen Field in Seattle
TV: Victory+
Radio: N/A
Series history: Seattle leads the all-time series 12-10-10 since 2013
Scoring drought
The Reign haven't scored a goal in four matches despite creating a combined 49 shots, 15 on target. The drought has led to a four-match winless skid (0-2-2) and dropped the Reign to eighth in the NWSL's 16-team standings.
Gotham, the defending league champions, are surging. The team is unbeaten in its past four matches (3-0-1). The run includes three shutouts. The Bats are fifth in league standings.
Troubles at home
Classifying three matches in Spokane as home games due to renovations at Lumen for the FIFA men's World Cup is saving the Reign's home performance this season. The team has yet to win at Lumen - dropping a 3-0 decision to Utah earlier this month and 1-0 to Washington on Sunday. Overall, the Reign are a banal 2-2-1 at "home" this year.
Friday is the Reign's last home match until July 12 due to the quadrennial tournament where Lumen will hold six matches.
Injury update
Reign defender Jordyn Bugg is expected to be able to play Friday. If so, it will be her season debut. The 2025 Defensive Player of the Year finalist suffered a hamstring injury while training with the U.S. women's national team.
Quotable
"We're at a stage right now that we don't care how that ball goes in the net, just go in the net," Reign coach Laura Harvey said. "When that happens, the weight will drain and we'll be maybe a bit calmer in those moments. If you get frustrated and you get angry about it, you're probably going to snatch at things and you're not gonna technically execute the way that you want."
