Paul Pierce Urges LeBron James to Retire After Lakers' Playoff Exit

The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs earlier this week after falling 115-110 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 of their second-round series.

The loss now leaves 41-year-old LeBron James facing an uncertain offseason, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent if he decides to continue playing.

Naturally, plenty of people around the basketball world have weighed in on what they believe James should do next, including former rival and Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce.

"Yeah, I think he should, man," Pierce said when asked if James should retire. "Just for the simple fact that at the age that he still receives the criticism that he still does. The greats wasn't getting this criticism late. Nobody was criticizing Kobe when he wasn't going to the playoffs in his last year. They was just enjoying his moments. Like the same with Jordan in Washington.

"For the simple fact the man is 41 and we still critiquing him like he 25 and should be winning championships still."

Seeing James walk away from the game after a playoff loss that resulted in the Lakers being swept would certainly come as a surprise, especially considering how well he played this season.

James finished the year averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game while serving as a major catalyst for Los Angeles late in the season and during their first-round series victory, particularly with Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves both sidelined at different points.

Still, James made it clear after the loss that he plans to take time with his family before deciding on his future.

"I don't know what the future holds for me, obviously, as it stands right now tonight," James said. "I've got a lot of time now. I think I said it last year after we lost to Minnesota. I'll go back and recalibrate with my family and talk with them and spend some time with them, and then obviously when the time comes, you guys will know what I decide to do."
