‘I'm Not Feeling Right': Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sends Message After Blue Jays Game

The Toronto Blue Jays narrowly defeated the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, evening up the series with a 2-1 win. The Blue Jays improved to 20-25, yet it is clear there is still plenty of work to do for the current group.

And that work starts with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who is in the midst of one of the worst stretches of his career. The 27-year-old superstar first baseman went 0 for 4 at the plate on Saturday.

In the month of May, Guerrero has posted a .118 batting average, a .220 on-base percentage, a .338 OPS, zero home runs and just four RBIs in 14 games. His disappointing stretch is a major reason Toronto has not been able to turn its season around, even with the injuries surrounding him.

After the game, Guerrero spoke with reporters and acknowledged his shortcomings in the batter's box.

"Obviously, I do not feel OK right now. I am not feeling right and you guys can tell that. I have been working very hard," Guerrero said (h/t Keegan Matheson of MLB.com).

He continued, "I am just looking to hit one ball very hard. It will stay in my head and my mind. I know things are going to change."

Guerrero's message carries some truth. Over the course of his eight-year career, he has been an especially streaky hitter. No example is more telling than his run last October, when he led the Blue Jays to the World Series and was nearly unstoppable. Toronto needs that version of Guerrero. The Blue Jays can only go as far as he can take them.

In the past, he has limited these cold spells. He is a five-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger, and the hope is that he can find that level again soon with Toronto sitting five games under .500. Pressure is mounting on the current group to turn it around out, and it starts with the face of the franchise rediscovering his swing.
