Fake Report About Tom Izzo, Will Wade Fools College Basketball Fans
Is there a legitimate feud brewing between Tom Izzo and Will Wade? No, but both coaches are trending on social media this Wednesdasy.
Earlier this week, the LSU men's basketball team landed commitments from former St. John's star RJ Luis Jr. and Saliou Niang despite the fact that both players are pros. Luis averaged 18.2 points per game in his final season of college basketball before spending the NBA preseason with Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics. As for Niang, he averaged 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season for Virtus Bologna in Italy.
After Wade received commitments from a pair of pro basketball players, a tweet from someone posing as CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein went viral.
"Tom Izzo is the coach who was NOT happy with the addition of RJ Luis to the LSU Tigers roster," the parody account's post read. "Izzo also remarked Wade is 'one of the most useless basketball minds' in the sport."
This post received over one million views in under 24 hours, as countless fans praised Izzo for comments he never made.
"Tom Izzo speaks the truth," one fan said.
"Tom Izzo is my hero," another fan declared.
College basketball world isn't happy with Will Wade.
While the quote from Izzo isn't real, college basketball fans have made it known they're not happy with Wade's roster construction.
"The SEC should just refuse to play LSU," one fan said.
"The NCAA must step in and enforce its own rules – ban LSU from post season play in 2026-27," a second fan suggested.
Jeff Goodman spoke to an anonymous NCAA coach who said Wade is "being an idiot for the sake of being an idiot."
Suffice to say, Wade isn't making a ton of friends in Baton Rouge.
