Indiana Fever Announce Decision After Unfortunate Caitlin Clark News

Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever was a late scratch from the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup against the Portland Fire. Clark has been a consistent scorer to start the season, scoring at least 20 points in each of Indiana's first four games. The Dowling Catholic High School graduate is fifth in the league in scoring (24.3 points per game) and first in assists (9.0 per game).

Clark was unexpectedly ruled out of the game 100 minutes before tipoff. Although the 6-foot guard missed practice Tuesday, there was no indication from head coach Stephanie White that the star guard was dealing with an ailment.

The Fever went to social media to announce the unfortunate news. In an X post, Indiana posted the starting lineup for the Portland game, with the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year absent. Guard Tyasha Harris was thrust into the starting lineup in her place. Harris is a seven-year veteran who was drafted by the Dallas Wings with the seventh pick in the first round of the 2020 WNBA Draft.

The Heritage Christian School graduate has played spot minutes for the Fever so far this season, receiving a season-high 16 minutes of action in an 87-78 win against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 13. The 5-foot-10 guard scored seven points in the game while also dishing out three assists. Forward Aliyah Boston, who was scratched from Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Storm, returns to the lineup for Wednesday's game and will attempt to alleviate Clark's absence.

After the Portland game, Indiana will face the Golden State Valkyries on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET and again on May 28 at 10 p.m. ET.
