Caitlin Clark's Contract Admission Has Fans Wondering About Her WNBA Future

Caitlin Clark has WNBA fans convinced that she wants to leave the Indiana Fever.

Since joining the Fever in 2024, Clark has averaged 18.9 points, 8.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, injuries plagued her sophomore season in Indiana. Although it's too early to speculate, she was held out of Wednesday night's game due to back soreness. Her absence has fans worried she could be dealing with the injury bug yet again.

Prior to Wednesday's game, Clark appeared on Fever star Aliyah Boston's podcast. She couldn't help but bring up that Boston became the first player in WNBA history to sign an extension under the Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) provision.

Clark then repeated that Boston is tied to the Fever until 2029. Boston quickly replied, "I love playing with you."

A few seconds later, Clark reminded Boston that she's not signed to a long-term deal.

"Well, I'm only signed until well, next year," Clark said. "Unless I sign my EPIC."

Some of Clark's fans believe she's teasing her departure from Indiana.

Should Caitlin Clark demand a trade?

Rachel DeMita said this week that Clark should consider leaving Indiana once the opportunity presents itself. She doesn't believe the organization has handled her health as best as possible.

"I don't know if Caitlin staying with the Indiana Fever makes sense," DeMita said. I think If this were an NBA franchise, an NBA organization, people would be fired by now. This is the face of the league, a star player who never had injuries. People would be fired by now. People would be fired expeditiously expeditiously. Somebody has to go down for it. That's what happens in every other league. We literally just saw Jason Kidd get fired by the Mavericks because they had a horrible season and they have Cooper Flagg. We see this happen so often."

The Fever only have Clark under contract through the 2027 season. She's set to be a restricted free agent in 2028.
