Tennis Fans Heartbroken Over Arthur Fils Withdrawing From French Open

Tennis fans' worst fears were confirmed this Saturday. Unfortunately, Arthur Fils has withdrawn from Roland Garros due to injury.

Fils, the world No. 19, missed a large chunk of the 2025 season due to a lingering back injury. Fans weren't sure if he'd ever return to his best form, but he quickly erased those doubts by making the Qatar Open final. He then backed up that performance by reaching the quarterfinals at Indian Wells.

After re-establishing himself as a force on the ATP Tour, Fils made it to the semifinals of the Miami Open. Despite suffering a tough loss to Jiri Lehecka, he bounced back by winning the Barcelona Open. He took down Lorenzo Musetti, Rafael Jodar and Andrey Rublev during that run.

Some fans thought Fils would be a dark horse contender for this year's French Open, especially since he'd have the home crowd on his side.

On Saturday, however, Fils confirmed that he's not healthy enough to compete in the biggest clay court tournament of the year.

Devastating hit to the French Open.

Fans are understandably upset they won't get to see Fils compete on his home soil.

"That's really unfortunate... Home Slam is always special, hopefully he recovers well and comes back stronger," one fan said.

"Heartbreaking for Arthur Fils," a second fan wrote. "Get healthy and come back stronger."

"Very very sad! Hope he gets better soon," another fan commented.

This year's French Open was already expected to lack firepower on the men's side due to Carlos Alcaraz's injury. The two-time defending champion is nursing a serious wrist injury.

The main draw of the French Open will begin this Sunday, May 24.
