Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers YRFI (+105)
The Rockies turn to RHP Tanner Gordon on Monday, and he has a 6.59 ERA over 27.1 IP on the season. He has allowed 14 earned runs in his last five appearances, spanning 19.1 innings, and Gordon was roughed up for seven earned runs in 6.1 IP during his last start. DH Shohei Ohtani, who typically hits leadoff for the Dodgers, is 3-for-6 with a double and three walks vs. Gordon. This looks like a great matchup to cash a YRFI.
Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles NRFI (-145)
Tampa throws LHP Shane McClanahan, who has allowed just one earned run in the first through nine starts. On the other side, RHP Kyle Bradish goes for the O's. The first inning is typically his best with just one earned run in the first through 10 starts. This looks like a good bet to keep the first frame clean.
Philadelphia Phillies at San Diego Padres NRFI (-125)
LHP Jesus Luzardo goes for the Phils, and he has yet to allow an earned run in the first, with the opposition hitting just .094 off him in the process. RHP Randy Vasquez is quietly having a great year at 5-2 with a 2.96 ERA. His 7.4 K/9 is the second-best K-rate of his career. He has a 2.70 ERA in the first inning through 10 starts. Look for these two to keep the scoreboard empty in the first frame.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
