Blue Jays Set to Promote Versatile Infield Prospect

One of the Toronto Blue Jays' top minor league bats is headed to the majors.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays are calling up infield prospect Charles McAdoo from Triple-A Buffalo. His first appearance will mark his MLB debut. Toronto must clear spots on both the active and 40-man rosters to make the transaction official.

McAdoo, 24, was acquired in the 2024 trade deadline deal that sent infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The former 13th-round pick ranks No. 26 in Toronto's farm system, according to MLB Pipeline, and is a distant cousin of Basketball Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo.

Through 202 Triple-A plate appearances this season, McAdoo has produced a .250/.356/.436 slash line with eight home runs, 27 RBIs and six stolen bases. He primarily splits his time defensively between the two corner infield spots, though he has made a pair of starts at second base within the past week.

Toronto recently sent down utilityman Davis Schneider, a move that left Lenyn Sosa as the club's lone reserve infielder. Much like Schneider, Sosa has struggled offensively, producing a .480 OPS over 84 plate appearances. The 26-year-old is out of minor league options, meaning he would have to clear waivers if the team attempts to send him down.

The addition of McAdoo brings another right-handed bat to a Blue Jays roster that is predominantly left-handed. While he is blocked by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base and Kazuma Okamoto at third base, his defensive versatility and offensive pop should help him earn playing time off the bench.
