Patrick Mahomes Has Clear Message About Knee Injury Ahead of NFL Season

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a disappointing 6-11 season in which they missed the postseason for the first time in a decade.

Now, after making several notable offseason additions and subtractions in an effort to retool the roster under head coach Andy Reid, the main focus centers around the health of superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes tore both his ACL and LCL in December of last season and later underwent surgery to repair both ligaments, though his rehab process has reportedly gone exceptionally well so far.

The expectation remains that Mahomes will be on the field for Week 1, and while speaking to the media on Thursday, he made it very clear that once he is healthy enough to return, he has no plans to change the way he plays.

"When I get on the field, I'm going to be myself; I'm not going to hold anything back," Mahomes said.

Mahomes was back on the field during OTAs and appeared to be moving well, though he acknowledged there are still several steps remaining in his recovery process throughout the summer and into training camp.

"Next step will be getting with the team and getting under center," Mahomes added. "It's a process, you've got to stay a part of it… You have to stay great every day, and if you do that, you get the opportunity to get out there on the field."

Andy Reid also noted that he has been encouraged by what he has seen from Mahomes during rehab.

"I like what I've seen. He's working hard. This is good for him," Reid said. "You get him out there throwing; it's rehab… He's doing partial practice. It's important. He's busted his tail to put himself in this position… We've got good communication with the doctors. They keep a close eye on him, and we listen to them."
