Former Chicago Sky Coach Has Blunt Message For Caitlin Clark

The accolades continue to pile up for Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark. Nearly every week, the former Iowa standout seems to add another accomplishment to her growing resume, and Thursday night was no different.

Clark made WNBA history against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday night. Her latest milestone once again highlighted the elite playmaking ability that has made her one of the league's most dangerous players.

Following the history-making play, Clark received praise from one of the most respected figures in women's basketball, a former Chicago Sky head coach and WNBA legend who delivered a straightforward assessment of what makes the Fever star so special.

Teresa Weatherspoon Praises Caitlin Clark's Greatest Strength

During an appearance on Prime Video's WNBA coverage, former Chicago Sky coach and Hall of Fame point guard Teresa Weatherspoon was asked about Clark's game.

Weatherspoon did not overcomplicate her answer.

"She has incredible vision."

The brief comment hit different considering its source. Weatherspoon is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards in WNBA history and built her career on leadership, passing and elevating teammates.

For a player with that resume to single out Clark's vision speaks volumes about how the Fever star is viewed around the league.

Clark's Historic Night Backed Up The Praise

Weatherspoon's comments came on the same night Clark added another historic achievement to her career.

Entering Thursday's matchup against the Golden State Valkyries, Clark needed just three assists to reach 500 for her career. She reached the milestone in the first half and became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 500 career assists. Clark reached the mark in only 59 games.

The previous record belonged to Hall of Fame point guard Ticha Penicheiro, who needed 67 games. Courtney Vandersloot reached 500 assists in 70 games, while Sue Bird accomplished the feat in 72 games.

Clark broke the previous record by eight games, an astonishing margin considering the legendary players she surpassed.

The Numbers Continue To Separate Clark

The record shows off her unique combination of scoring and playmaking that Clark brings to the floor.

Entering Thursday's game, she was averaging 23.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game during the 2026 season. Through her first 58 career contests, Clark had already accumulated 1,102 points, 314 rebounds and 497 assists while posting three triple-doubles and 20 double-doubles.

While Clark's deep shooting range often generates headlines, her ability to see plays develop before they happen remains one of the defining traits of her game.

That is exactly what Weatherspoon highlighted with her simple but powerful assessment.

As Clark continues rewriting the WNBA record book, praise from legends of the game is becoming just as common as the milestones themselves.
