NBA Announces Referee Crew for Spurs-Thunder Game 7

With a trip to the NBA Finals and a matchup against the New York Knicks on the line, the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are set to face off in a pivotal Game 7 on Saturday night.

Ahead of the game, one of the biggest talking points among NBA fans has been the officiating crew, as both teams have had varying levels of success with certain referees throughout the season and playoffs.

The NBA has now officially announced the crew, and neither Scott Foster nor Tony Brothers - two of the league's most polarizing officials - will be working the game.

Instead, Marc Davis has been named crew chief, with Josh Goble serving as referee, Josh Tiven as umpire, and Mitchell Ervin as the alternate.

The last game in this series that Davis worked as crew chief was Game 3, which Oklahoma City won 123-108 in San Antonio to take a 2-1 series lead. Tiven officiated Game 2, another Thunder victory, while Goble was part of the crew for Game 1, a double-overtime thriller won by the Spurs.

Officiating has been one of the most scrutinized aspects of this series heading into Game 7 because of the physical style both teams have played with, as well as the ongoing debates surrounding flopping and players selling contact to draw whistles. Those discussions have seemingly followed every game in the series.

Davis, however, brings extensive experience to the assignment, currently in his 28th NBA season. Goble is in his 19th year, while Tiven is in his 16th, giving the crew plenty of experience as they prepare to officiate one of the biggest games of the season when tipoff arrives at 8:30 p.m. ET.
