Kyrie Irving Reveals Injury Update Amid NBA Playoffs

Kyrie Irving missed the entirety of the NBA season after suffering a torn left ACL last March, but the All-Star guard appears optimistic about where things are heading into next season.

“I am definitely close to being over at 100% in terms of my ACL recovery. It’s been a while now … I’m so grateful that I’ve had the time to heal and just experiment with my body more on the court and off the court in the weight room and just pushing myself to the limit,” Irving said in his Twitch stream.

The NBA champion’s remarks come after a difficult season for his Dallas Mavericks, who, despite having No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, struggled to win games. Flagg won Rookie of the Year, but the team finished 26-56, the fourth-worst record in the Western Conference.

Irving’s return to the lineup would be a significant boost for the team after that sort of season, but it comes amid rumors about his future in the NBA.

A recent report from The Stein Line’s Jake L. Fischer indicates that multiple teams are expected to call the Mavericks this summer to attempt to “pry away” Irving.

The nine-time NBA All-Star joined the Mavericks roster in 2023 after five seasons with the Brooklyn Nets. He began his career in Cleveland, where he won a championship alongside LeBron James, and later played several seasons for the Boston Celtics.

Among the teams mentioned as potentially interested in Irving are the Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers.

All of these teams might need an additional piece, given the way the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs look ready to take over the West for years to come.

Irving on the Lakers could reunite him with two of his former teammates: LeBron James and Luka Doncic. However, there are also rumors that LeBron might end up on a different team next season as he closes out his career.

Nonetheless, the fact that Irving indicates he’s healthy and wants to play again is a great sign for interested suitors. If he’s back in his previous basketball form, it could give whichever team has him on their roster next season a significant upgrade at the guard position.
