Knicks' OG Anunoby Highlights Defensive Plan Against Victor Wembanyama

San Antonio Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama is a nightmare to game plan against. But fortunately for the New York Knicks, they have a world-class defender on their side.

OG Anunoby earned All-Defensive Second Team honors for the Knicks this past season, but New York head coach Mike Brown has consistently asserted that he was “robbed” of First Team recognition. The 6-foot-7 forward has the perfect combination of size, length, strength, athleticism and physicality to make things difficult for a player of Wembanyama’s caliber.

During his availability at NBA Finals media day on Tuesday, Anunoby was asked about his defensive plan for Wembanyama.

“Being aware of where he’s at all over the floor. He can do everything. Super talented,” Anunoby said. “Being aware of him at all times. Trying to make it as difficult as possible”

Opposing teams have had a difficult time containing Wembanyama through his first 17 career playoff games. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman is averaging 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game in his debut postseason campaign.

Through his five career matchups against the Knicks so far, Wembanyama averaged 30.4 points and 14.6 rebounds per game. Those numbers do not include this past season’s NBA Cup championship, in which he was held to 18 points and six rebounds through 25 minutes of action.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
