Jason Whitlock Sparks Controversy With Caitlin Clark Trade Claim

It's not a normal day if there isn't some drama on social media surrounding Indiana Fever superstar and the face of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark.

Clark is coming off a solid performance Thursday night in the Fever's win over the Atlanta Dream, which helped snap a two-game skid.

However, former Fox Sports analyst and polarizing media personality Jason Whitlock believes Clark's days in Indiana could be numbered.

Whitlock posted Friday that the Fever are "planning" to trade Clark to the Los Angeles Sparks, a claim that has not been supported by any official reporting or team confirmation.

"The Indiana Fever are planning to ship Caitlin Clark to the Los Angeles Sparks," Whitlock posted. "I expect UCLA coach Cori Close to be the head coach of the Sparks."

As expected, the comments sparked widespread debate on social media. Some fans suggested the idea could be plausible, while others dismissed it entirely, pointing to Clark's status as one of the league's biggest stars both on and off the court.

"I'd be stunned if they trade her mainly on the basis of ticket sales. But that would be crazy if it happens," one fan wrote.

"Jason do not play with my emotions man," another added.

"Coming from? The GM? Coach?" a third questioned.

"Unless CC is demanding a trade, she's not going anywhere until her deal is up," a fan shared.

"Unless CC asks for it there's zero chance that this is happening," another commented.

Clark playing in the Los Angeles market would certainly be a massive boost for the WNBA. However, if the Fever were to trade Clark - the player who has helped rejuvenate women’s basketball in Indiana - it would likely spark an uproar among fans, who have packed arenas and supported the franchise at unprecedented levels since she was selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
