Victor Wembanyama Compared to Another International Sports Icon

Victor Wembanyama’s rise to global superstardom has been something to behold.

At just 22 years old playing in this third NBA season, Wembanyama has the San Antonio Spurs competing for an NBA title. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman is catching his stride as one of the league’s best players, unanimously winning both the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Western Conference Finals MVP trophy.

During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” ABC/ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson referred to Wembanyama as a “gift to sports” - comparing his international impact to that of Japanese baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Wembanyama’s uniqueness comes with his ability to move like a guard with his 7-foot-4 frame and 8-foot wingspan. Ohtani’s comes with his elite production as both a pitcher and hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I look at Shohei Ohtani, he is a gift to sports in general, like to have a player with that type of capability. Wembanyama, he is one of those players that like people from all around the world should want to come see,” Jefferson said.

“We’ve never seen something like this. This is a marvel of human ability - that size, that ability, that temperament, that type of mobility,” he continued. “So while he is a gift to America, he is a gift to the world."
