Cherie DeVaux Shares What Comes Next for Golden Tempo After Belmont Triumph

Cherie DeVaux has already revealed the next step for Golden Tempo after his latest big-race statement. The Kentucky Derby winner skipped the Preakness Stakes because of fitness concerns, but his return at the Belmont Stakes could not have gone much better as he added another Triple Crown race to his résumé.

DeVaux, who made history as the first female trainer to win the Derby, now has one of the biggest names in racing on her hands. With Golden Tempo winning two of the three Triple Crown races, attention has quickly shifted to where he goes next this summer.

Speaking to the media after a triumphant win, DeVaux said, "It will be interesting to see how he runs in the Jim Dandy, how the nine furlongs translates. You know with his maturity and now more running and experience, we can see a little bit more versatility I think."

Golden Tempo's celebration period will not last too long.

After a huge few weeks on the Triple Crown trail, Cherie DeVaux is already looking ahead to the next phase of his season. The plan is for Golden Tempo to leave Saratoga and go back to Keeneland, where his team can give him a more familiar setup before building toward his next target.

DeVaux made it clear that the goal is not to rush him, but to keep him progressing. She believes Golden Tempo still has more to show as a 3-year-old, which is why the summer races at Saratoga are now so important.

The Jim Dandy Stakes is expected to be his next major stop, and if everything goes well, the Travers Stakes could follow. That would give Golden Tempo another chance to prove himself at a track where he has already looked comfortable.

For DeVaux, the excitement is obvious, but so is the focus. The big wins are why the long hours matter, but now the job is to manage Golden Tempo carefully and make sure his strong season continues.
