Texas Tech's National Title Odds Change Drastically After Judge's Brendan Sorsby's Ruling

A Texas judge issued a ruling on Monday, granting Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby eligibility for the 2026 college football season, despite his gambling issues.

Sorsby, who is reportedly getting paid $5 million at Texas Tech, is expected to serve a two-game suspension at the start of the year, before being granted eligibility for the rest of the year.

The NCAA is not happy.

"The NCAA strongly disagrees with the court's ruling in Sorsby's case and is deeply concerned about the damaging, far-reaching and broadly destabilizing ramifications of this outcome - which undermines and corrupts the integrity of sports. The NCAA is committed to supporting student-athlete mental health but must continue to aggressively defend against actions that defraud college athletics and threaten competitive integrity, such as betting on one's own sport," the NCAA said.

In a bit of serious irony, Texas Tech's College Football Playoff national title odds have changed drastically, in the wake of the judge's ruling.

Texas Tech's national title odds change drastically

Texas Tech's College Football Playoff national title odds have improved nearly 100 percent following the judge's ruling.

"The odds for Texas Tech to win the national championship went from 25/1 to 14/1 in light of the Brendan Sorsby decision. BetOnline has already updated its board," Ross Dellenger reported.

"Sorsby's Heisman odds are back on the board: 18/1."

Texas Tech is coming off a College Football Playoff appearance. The Red Raiders are now expected to be a serious contender as we head into the 2026 college football regular season, with Sorsby officially in fold.
