Former Knicks Stars Want Victor Wembanyama To 'Feel Something' In Game 4
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has become public enemy No. 1 for the New York Knicks and their fans.
Wembanyama led the Spurs to a crucial Game 3 victory on Monday, scoring 32 points and blocking three shots. During the first half of action, he was called out for shoving Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in the head. It was an absurd act that certainly warranted a flagrant foul.
The NBA, however, opted against disciplining Wembanyama. Many fans believe that's due to the fact that he's two flagrant points away from an automatic suspension.
While the league has chosen to remain silent, former Knicks players have made it clear they won't tolerate Wembanyama's behavior.
Knicks legend Stephon Marbury put Wembanyama on blast, calling him a "dirty" player who needs to be popped in the ribcage.
"Wemby is an international player, they play dirty overseas, just so you know. We're not used to playing dirty in America the way how Wemby just now threw Jalen Brunson. If I'm watching film, and I see Wemby throw somebody on my team… the next game, I'm going to pop him in his ribcage so hard with my elbow that he's going to fall and drop to the ground, and he's going to wish he never put his hands on me," Marbury said, via Sports Illustrated. "Next game, I guarantee you, after y'all watch that film what he did to Jalen Brunson, you better know that whenever he get on the basketball court, you better make sure you put that knife in his neck. … Next game, you make sure you bring that same energy, alright?"
Marbury wasn't the only former Knicks player who had an issue with Wembanyama shoving Brunson.
Al Harrington, who averaged 19.2 points per game on the Knicks from 2008-2010, said on national television that someone better make Wembanyama "feel something" in Game 4.
"There's no way you're gonna handle my best player like that and laugh about it after," Harrington said. "Tomorrow, Wemby better feel something from somebody on the Knicks. Period. This is New York City, we do the punking."
Jose Alvarado is taking a stand for the Knicks.
Knicks guard Jose Alvarado was asked about Wembanyama shoving Brunson during Tuesday's media availability. He suggested it'll be the last time the French phenom gets away with a questionable play like that.
"I think that's not basketball," Alvarado said, view Zach Braziller of the New York Post. "That's something that they gotta look at. But he got away with one. That'll be the last one."
We can't wait to see how physical these two teams get in Game 4.
Tipoff for Game 4 is at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
