Angel Reese Downplays Historic Feat After Dream Defeat Sky
Angel Reese is continuing to make WNBA history and is now joining and passing former NBA stars in basketball history with her impressive stats.
The Atlanta Dream star returned to Chicago to face her former team, the Sky, on Tuesday evening, and received a strong welcome back during pregame introductions. She then went on to record yet another double-double in a Dream win.
Reese scored 17 points on 5 of 12 shooting to go with grabbing 17 rebounds in an 82-75 win over her former team. Four assists and two steals were also part of her stat line, helping her new squad continue winning games.
She achieved several historic feats with last night’s performance. Per Yahoo Sports, Reese is the first WNBA player to record 957 rebounds through 75 games.

According to ESPN Insights, her 57 double-doubles in 75 games tied her with former NBA player Blake Griffin for second-most double-doubles behind only the legendary Shaquille O’Neal.
Other players on that list with Reese include the WNBA’s Tina Charles and San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan, both of whom were known for their consistency in helping their teams get victories. Duncan is now in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and Charles will likely get her spot there in the coming years.
Asked about the historic feat after the game, Reese downplayed her individual accomplishment for the sake of the Atlanta Dream’s season. To her, it is all about the team’s success.
“It doesn’t matter unless I get a win,” she said in her postgame remarks. “I was able to get a lot of double-doubles my first two years, but it feels good when you get a win, so I’m really happy to be with the Dream.”
They are currently on a mission to claim the Commissioner’s Cup, something that the Indiana Fever won last year.
The entire Dream starting lineup put forth a balanced scoring effort, with Rhyne Howard also recording 17 points and Naz Hillmon scoring 16. Jordin Canada and Allisha Gray each contributed 14 points in the win.
With the victory, Atlanta moved to 8-3 and continues to sit atop the Eastern Conference standings. They’re third in the overall standings, which has to be seen as a major win for Reese, who was dealing with consecutive losing seasons in Chicago.
