Jalen Hurts Responds to ESPN ‘Hit Piece' That Blamed Him for Eagles' Failures

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has had as tumultuous of an offseason as anyone in the NFL.

The 27-year-old QB was the subject of what many are calling a "hit piece" by ESPN, in which he was thrown under the bus and blamed for most of the team's shortcomings last season by multiple anonymous sources reportedly close to the team.

While the tension between himself and former receiver A.J. Brown was well-documented last season, that story shined a light on Hurts being allegedly ill perceived among some of his other teammates.

On Wednesday, Hurts was asked how he felt about that particular article being written about him, and he turned a few heads with his indifference toward the situation.

"I've never really asked for an opportunity to respond to anything," Hurts told reporters. "So just let it live and go do my job."

That ESPN story also implied that Hurts was on a short leash heading into the 2026 season, insinuating that he could be traded next offseason if he failed to play better under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

But Hurts denied being resistant to change, stating he's committed to thriving under Mannion's guidance and having the Eagles' offense not be criticized for being stagnant like it was last year.

"I'm always open to growth," Hurts added. "I'm always open to improving. I think a lot of it is what do we put our time on task? What are we exhausting? What are we repping. And so, I'm looking forward to seeing how training camp goes so we can just continue to build on the foundation that we're beginning to lay down."

Hurts also made it clear that he's not worried about his contract status heading into next season.
