Broncos Release Statement On Jonathon Cooper's Second Arrest

Just last week Denver Broncos pass rusher Jonathon Cooper was arrested and held on charges relating to domestic violence and criminal mischief. But despite pleading not guilty and getting slapped with a protection order, he's in handcuffs again.

According to 9News in Denver, Cooper was arrested this morning on four charges relating to violating that protection order. He faces two domestic violence charges, one harassment charge and a fourth charge for violation of a protection order.

The prior charges he was arrested for were misdemeanors. This time he's reportedly being charged with a felony.

The Denver Broncos have released a statement on the arrest.

"We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper's arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter," the team said.

Different Standards?

There aren't many players who can get arrested twice in seven days and stay in the league, let alone on the same team. But Jonathon Cooper isn't most players.

He's no Pro Bowler but Cooper has ranked among the most important players for the Broncos over the past three years as they've returned to the top of the NFL pecking order. Over his last three seasons he's recorded 27 sacks, 27 tackles for loss and 49 QB hits.

Suffice it to say, the Broncos would loathe having to part ways with a player that productive. But at this point, they may not have much of a choice.

NFL fans certainly don't envy the position the Broncos are in:

"That statement reads exactly like a team finding out the news at the same time as everyone else," one user remarked on X.

"The corporate dictionary definition of 'we are sweating profusely behind closed doors right now,'" wrote another.

"Another off-field issue for a promising pass rusher. How many chances do these guys usually get before teams cut ties these days?" a third asked.

Has Cooper played his final down for the Broncos?
