Victor Wembanyama's Finals Guarantee Labeled 'Greatest Gamble' In NBA History
The San Antonio Spurs are one loss away from watching the New York Knicks celebrate their first championship since 1973, but Victor Wembanyama is convinced that won't happen.
Wembanyama has been highly productive in the Finals, averaging 27.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. That being said, he had a costly turnover in Game 2 and missed two crucial free throws in Game 4.
"I don't know about the emotions, but it was painful, of course," Wembanyama said after the Spurs blew a 29-point lead to the Knicks. "It feels like we worked too hard and give up our leads. It's as simple as that. It just hurts."
Despite losing Game 4 in such brutal fashion, Wembanyama said "everybody knows" the Spurs are going to win the Finals.
After Wembanyama guaranteed the Spurs will complete the 3-1 comeback, NBA fans declared it the "greatest gamble" in the history of sports.
"Might be the most insane aura gamble i've seen in a while," one fan said.
"Listen to me son if it actually happens on GOD he the greatest to touch the court," a second fan declared.
"People saying he's too cocky, this IS the level of confidence in yourself to make a 3-1 comeback," a third fan wrote.
"Could be the greatest aura gamble payout of all time," another fan added.
The Knicks are taking a different approach to Game 5.
When asked if he feels like the Knicks are one step away from securing a title, Jalen Brunson simply replied, "0-0."
Knicks center Mitchell Robinson preached the same mindset during Friday's shootaround.
"We're still desperate. It ain't over," Robinson said. "That's our mindset. We're trying to stay desperate and go out there and fight."
Suffice to say, the Knicks refuse to overlook the Spurs despite possessing a 3-1 series lead.
