Golden Knights Announce William Karlsson Injury Update Before Stanley Cup Final Game 6
The Vegas Golden Knights will be without one of their most important forwards as they attempt to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive.
Head coach John Tortorella confirmed that William Karlsson will not play in Game 6 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Vegas trails the Stanley Cup Final 3-2 and faces elimination on home ice.
Karlsson suffered an upper-body injury during Game 5 after taking a hard hit from Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker in the second period. The veteran center appeared to favor his arm immediately after the collision and later left Lenovo Center for further evaluation.

The Athletic's Jesse Granger first reported the update, posting on X, "William Karlsson won't play in Game 6."
Granger later added more concerning context regarding Karlsson's outlook.
"Tortorella wouldn't rule Karlsson out for a potential Game 7, but it's clear that he's done for the remainder of the series," Granger wrote.

The loss is significant for a Golden Knights team already fighting uphill in the Final. Karlsson has been one of Vegas' most reliable two-way players throughout the postseason, recording nine points in 15 playoff games while posting a strong plus-10 rating.
His line with Mitch Marner and Brett Howden has consistently handled difficult matchups while providing secondary scoring behind Vegas' top unit.
So, now Karlsson's absence creates a major hole down the middle. He plays key minutes at even strength, on the penalty kill, and in defensive-zone situations. Those responsibilities are not easily replaced in a must-win game.
Vegas does have options. Tomas Hertl could move into a larger role, while Howden may receive additional center responsibilities. Brandon Saad, Reilly Smith, or Braeden Bowman are among the candidates who could enter the lineup.
However, the Golden Knights' biggest challenge remains maintaining their structure without one of their best defensive forwards.
Karlsson already missed much of the regular season due to a lower-body injury, making this latest setback especially frustrating. After battling back to help Vegas reach the Final, his postseason appears to be over.
With their season on the line, the Golden Knights must now find a way to replace Karlsson's minutes and force a decisive Game 7 back in Carolina.
