NRFI, YRFI MLB Bets Today: Best First Inning Predictions for Monday, June 15

Philadelphia Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler is back to his ace form, and we're looking for him and the Miami Marlins to combine for an NRFI Monday. The Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs meet up for a potential YRFI opportunity. The Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros meet up for another YRFI prospect.

It's a little lighter schedule for Monday with 10 games and as many teams having the day off. All games will start in the evening.

Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today

Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies NRFI (-120)

The Fish are going with RHP Ryan Gusto as an opener. He gave up two earned runs in the first in his last opening appearance, so we're going to hope he gets back on track and ride RHP Zack Wheeler of the Phils. He's 5-1 with a 2.22 ERA on the season and has allowed just two earned runs in the first in nine starts.

Colorado Rockies at Chicago Cubs YRFI (-105)

The Rockies tab RHP Michael Lorenzen for the start. He's 2-8 with a 7.54 ERA on the season. Pitching in Coors Field is no simple task, so one might reason that has been his issue. However, he's 1-5 with a 6.68 ERA on the road. He has a 5.79 ERA in the first inning this season. LHP Shota Imanaga is 4-6 with a 4.44 ERA in a down season. His struggles begin in the first with a 6.43 ERA in the opening frame.

Detroit Tigers at Houston Astros YRFI (-115)

Tigers RHP Troy Melton makes his fifth start, and he's 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA. You can get to him in the first inning, though, as evidenced by his 4.50 ERA. RHP Kai-Wei Teng makes his eighth start, and he's 2-4 with a 4.94 ERA as a starter this season. He has a 3.86 ERA in the first inning this season. So the odds shift the pendulum toward a YRFI in this matchup.

What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?

The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
