Mets' Juan Soto Receives Unfortunate All-Star Game Voting Update

In the second year of his 15-year, $765 million megadeal with the New York Mets, Juan Soto has been his usual self. The numbers speak for themselves.

Across 54 games, the 27-year-old is slashing .293/.387/.561 with an OPS of .948. He has 15 home runs and 34 RBIs.

Despite his fantastic performance this season, the outfielder isn't quite getting the recognition he deserves. After a week and a half of All-Star fan voting, Soto doesn't rank very highly on the ballot.

A post on X from SNY Mets detailed the situation.

Because Soto is ninth in NL outfield voting, he is currently on the outside looking in for Phase 2 of voting. To advance, he would need to make it into the top six for NL outfielders before the phase ends on June 25.

This comes as a complete shock, seeing as Soto's numbers are undoubtedly elite. The post on X also names teammate Bo Bichette as being in disfavor on the ballot, but that makes sense given his dismal season to this point.

There may be a few potential reasons for Soto's exclusion. Firstly, it could be a Mets issue. The club is 32-39, last place in the National League East and a whopping 14 games back of the first-place Atlanta Braves.

It could also be because of Soto missing time with injury. The 27-year-old was out of action from April 4 to April 21 with a calf strain. His incomplete season could have some importance to fans who are choosing to participate in voting.

However, that argument can start to deteriorate when you look at the outfielders above Soto in voting. For example, Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers is fifth in voting despite only playing in 51 of his team's 72 games.

No matter how you slice it, Soto has been better than some of the names ahead of him in the standings. You would think that the four-time All-Star would make it five this season.

He did not make the roster last season as well, even though he didn't miss any time with injury. It will be interesting to see how this bizarre trend develops during the slugger's time in Queens.
