Report: The Athletic's Dianna Russini Investigation Is Still Going
It's been over two months since Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel were at the center of a huge scandal, but the fallout apparently isn't over behind closed doors.
Page Six caused an uproar on April 7 by sharing photos of Russini and Vrabel at a hotel in Arizona. Although she denied any rumors about her and the Patriots coach having a romantic relationship, Russini resigned from her job with The Athletic.
"I have come to this decision with deep sadness but with clarity about what is right for me, my family, and the work I have spent my career building," Russini said in a statement. "I do not do so because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen to let it define me or my career."
The New York Times and The Athletic later announced that Russini's behavior and past reporting would be investigated due to her connection with Vrabel.
"Some inside the New York Times building are beginning to wonder what's taking so long with the Dianna Russini investigation, we're told - but top editors have reiterated promises that it's coming. Though they say a report is still ‘weeks' away," Page Six reported earlier this month.
According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, this investigation still isn't over yet.
"Sources say investigation is still ongoing," McCarthy said. "And a reminder: The investigation is limited to the former Senior NFL Insider 's journalism for The Athletic, not her conduct."
What's the latest on Russini?
Russini hasn't said anything publicly since she resigned from her role with The Athletic. However, the belief is she'll eventually come forward and share her side to the story.
"This is her story to share when she feels like sharing it," Jon ‘Stugotz' Weiner said, via Awful Announcing. "It is not me. And it is not my obligation to talk to Dianna Russini privately on the phone and then share it with a radio audience that she doesn't want me to share it with, because it's not my story to tell. It's her story to tell on her timeline."
With Week 1 less than three months away, it's unclear if Russini will provide any in-depth coverage this NFL season.
