Angels Place Mike Trout on Injured List

The Los Angeles Angels were dealt a tough blow ahead of their series opener against the Athletics.

Star outfielder Mike Trout is being placed on the injured list due to a hamstring injury, as first reported by Sam Blum of The Athletic. Trout had played in 74 of 75 games so far this season and was mounting a strong campaign after a few-injured riddled seasons. Joining the team in his place will be 23-year-old infielder Christian Moore.

Slashing .234/.394/.472 with 17 home runs and 36 RBI, the 34-year-old was mounting a run for his 12th career All-Star Game appearance, which will be hosted nearby his hometown of Millville, New Jersey in Philadelphia.

Earlier in the day, Trout spoke with Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com to talk about the significance of this year's All-Star Game and what it would mean for him to get the nod.

"When it first came up a couple years ago that 2026 would be in Philly, that was one I really wanted to get to," Trout said. "So to be up there in the voting means a lot. Hope I get in."

Trout also told Bollinger that he was feeling good physically, stressing the outsized importance of health at this point in his career.

"My body feels good," he said. "Coming in, preparing myself every single day just to go out there and perform, take care of my body."

It's unclear how much time the future Hall of Famer will have to miss with the hamstring injury, but the sudden move to the IL does signal something potentially more significant than just a day-to-day ailment.

Coming into today, Trout ranked third among all American League players in ASG voting and second among outfielders with 926,601 votes, trailing only Astrosdesignated hitter Yordan Alvarez (1,015,768) and Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (977,460).

After a slow start to the month, the veteran outfielder was hitting a stride as of late. Riding an eight-game hitting streak, Trout had launched three home runs in as many series over the last week. It's brutal timing for the club, who may be cautious with Trout's return considering his age and the unpredictable nature of hamstring injuries.
