Indiana Fever's 100-Point Trend Is Concerning

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Feversuffered a 108-101 loss to Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, snapping their four-game winning streak as they dropped to 9-6 on the season.

Clark, who debuted her signature shoe Caitlin 1's in the game, recorded 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting. She also dished out seven assists and grabbed two rebounds.

Kelsey Mitchell added 26 points as well, while Aliyah Boston chipped in 23 points and eight rebounds. Sophie Cunningham was also effective off the bench, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Despite the offense being on point, however, the Fever defense couldn't make a stop in key moments. In fact, after Indiana tied the game at 95-95 with 3:16 left in regulation, the team allowed Atlanta to go on a 10-4 run over the next three minutes to pull away for good.

Now, the loss is the Fever's third of the season in which they scored at least 100 points. According to beat reporter Tony East, Indiana is only the second team in WNBA history to lose at least three games in a season while scoring at least 100 points. They join the 2010 Phoenix Mercury.

The Fever lost their season opener against the Dallas Wings 107-104. Then six days later, in their third game of the season, the Washington Mystics beat them in overtime 104-102.

While it shows that the Fever are a dangerous offensive team with Clark, Mitchell and Boston leading the way, the losing trend also highlights how they are unable to hold on to their leads even when they are scoring efficiently.

The Fever's only wins when they scored 100 points or more were against the Chicago Sky and Toronto Tempo, both of whom are currently out of playoff contention.

That said, head coach Stephanie White and the Fever will have to find a way to make stops even when they are thriving offensively. The good news for Indiana is that the season is still young, with 29 games left to play.

They will have a chance to avenge their latest loss when they play the Dream again on Saturday.
