Sideline Reporter Hailey Hunter Fired One Month After Her Wedding
Popular NHL sideline reporter Hailey Hunter is officially out of a job, just one month following her wedding.
Hunter, who covered the Pittsburgh Penguins for SportsNet Pittsburgh, was fired from her role with the network.
The Penguins wanted to "move in a different direction."
"Unfortunately, I was told the Penguins have decided that they simply wanted to move in a different direction with the role," Hunter told TribLive. "I really wasn't given any details, but I understand that's the business we are in."
Hunter spent three seasons covering the Penguins, debuting during the 23-24 season. She was helping cover the franchise her father, Tim Hrynewich, played 55 games for from 1982-84.
She and her fiance had just tied the knot, too, making for pretty brutal timing.
NHL fans have problem with the firing
"TV can be a real dirty business. I'm so sorry for Hailey. She deserved WAY better!" one fan wrote.
"Dislike. Hailey was fantastic at her job, and will undoubtedly move onward and upward from us at our loss," one fan added.
"Hailey does great work. We are all the poorer because of this," one fan added.
"Such a bummer. I thought @TheHaileyHunter did terrific work on the Penguins broadcasts - both on ice & in-studio. Wishing Hailey the best in her future endeavors," one fan added.
"What the heck?! Hailey Hunter has been amazing with the pens…" one fan added.
"Hailey Hunter is an outstanding rinkside reporter. I'm sad to read this news," one fan added.
"Such a bummer. She deserved a heck of a lot better," one fan added.
"SNP seems like a real disaster from top to bottom, from actual production to how bad their app is," one fan added.
It'll be interesting to see where the broadcast goes from here.
